Who Are We Leaving Out In Learning?

I’ve been quietly celebrating a new chapter - I recently started a certification in Team + Group coaching. It’s a perfect next step in deepening my craft as someone who supports hybrid teams.

The learning? Rich and energizing.

The cohort? Lovely, engaged, and generous.

The pace? Phew
that’s where things get tricky.

As an introvert, I’m reminded - yet again - that many group learning environments are built with extroverts in mind.

The cohort is 20 people. Not huge on paper, but when you’re someone who processes internally, needs time to reflect before speaking, and thrives in calmer spaces
a 2-hour evening session filled with rapid breakout rooms can leave you depleted instead of inspired.

It’s not about the people. It’s about the pace. The format. The expectations that reward “thinking out loud” over thoughtful pause.

And I’m not alone. Many brilliant, deeply thoughtful humans - leaders, teammates, professionals - are quietly trying to keep up in spaces that weren’t designed for how they’re wired. Many of these incredible humans are my clients too.

Here are gentle reflections if you create or lead learning spaces:

đŸȘ·Â Pause and ask - are we designing for all styles, or just the loudest ones?

đŸȘ·Â What would change if we gave more time for reflection
or reimagined how contribution happens?

The most powerful insights from your team might be the ones waiting for space to speak.
